You Want It To Be One Way, But It’s The Other Way

“Most of the pain we feel (if not ALL the pain we feel) is because we want it to be one way; but it’s the other way.”

I’m not much of a TV watcher, so when the series The Wire was airing, I didn’t watch a single episode.  It’s been argued among a few of my friends that this was one of the best shows to air on television.  As I was doing my ‘YouTube’ research, I came across this clip and had to wonder if I had ‘missed something’ by NOT watching this series.  The above clip is  RIGHT ON POINT!!!!!  So often in life, we want things to be ONE way.  Then when we are presented with the Truth, it causes our world to crumble right before our eyes.  The Truth being…..IT’S THE OTHER WAY!!!!

We become blind to what the truth is.    We  want to believe that everything is the way we dream it to be rather than how things really are.  What happens when evidence or facts teach us that it is not that way at all?  Do we hide behind the saying “Ignorance is Bliss” or do we seek out and accept Truth?  Do we continue in the delusion of the Beautiful Lie or do we face the Ugly Truth?

We want to believe that our loved ones will live forever and then someone dies.  We want to believe our relationships will last forever and then your Lover leaves.  We want to believe that our children will be ‘productive’ and then they are incarcerated.  We want to believe we have job security and then we are fired.  We want to believe we will remain healthy and then we are stricken with illness.  With each incident we feel pain.  And the reason we feel this pain is because we want it to be one way, but it’s the other way.

In this clip, notice how the security guard gets all riled up and how Marlo remains calm.  As all types of emotions are running through the security guard, Marlo looks at him directly in his face, steals something as small as a couple of suckers and walks right out of the store.  Know why that is?  Because the security guard wants it to be one way, but it’s the other way.  And when confronted with that Truth, the security guard becomes agitated.  He doesn’t want to hear that it’s the other way.  And because Marlo understands the concept of ‘The Other Way”, he remains calm.  It’s the same with our lives.  When we want something to be other than it is, we become frustrated, angry, bitter, and even resentful.  Once you accept the Truth, you can then RELAX in that Truth.  Now this is not to say that you accept Truth and do nothing.  If within this new found Truth, there is a solution to your problem (and there’s always a solution), move into it.  The solution could very well be accepting that things are the OTHER way.
